Douglas County Conservation District’s Mission:

The Douglas County Conservation District is a special district serving the landowners of Douglas County Colorado.  Our Mission is to promote projects through education to further the long term sustainable use of natural resources balancing the needs of agriculture and urban growth.  In short,  we are here for the landowners with educational information on how to be wise in using our natural resources now so they will be available for future generations.

The district to award three  $500.00 college scholarships  
The Douglas County Conservation District board reviewed applications submitted for the college scholarship awards.  The winners are: Cody Goosmann, Brittany Hamacher, and Katlin Sanderson.  Congratulations to all three award winners, each will receive $500.00 to assist with their college tuition to further their schooling in an ag. Related field.

Jack and Marcia Hannig have been selected as the 2008 Upper South Platte Watershed Association 
District Conservationists of the Year 
The Hannig’s will be presented the award on June 25th at the quarterly meeting of the Upper South Platte Watershed Association.  Congratulations to them for the recognition they receive for being good stewards of their property here in Douglas County through implementation of various conservation practices on their land.

Minimize grass areas in your yard.

Plant drought tolerant plants-xeriscape.

Mulch planting areas to hold in moisture.

Consider installing drip irrigation for individual bushes, trees, flowers and garden area.

Adjust lawn watering to the weather, and water plants only when they need it.
